I recently self-published three books with Bespoke Author,. It's been a pleasure to work with them at every stage of the design and publishing process. I write cosy crime books under the pen name Honor Brightwell. I'm based in West Oxfordshire, UK. I knew that the best way forward for me woule be to self-publish, but I had absolutely no idea how to go about it. I started reading up about publishing but I soon felt quite overwhelmed by just how much I'd have to learn and how much work was involved. I was talking to a friend who was self-publishing a non-fiction book with Bespoke Author. She told me how well it was going and what a fantastic cover they had developed for her. I was really impressed with what she said and with what she showed me, and so I contacted Bespoke Author and quickly had a reply from Peter setting up a Zoom meeting to discuss my book and ideas for the cover. We talked about things that would work, things that probably wouldn't work, and trends in the cover design for the type of book I had written. I then filled in a very straightforward online form just to confirm the details about my book and the ideas for the cover. And very soon Peter came back with two cover designs: one following up on an idea that I had and another idea that was his own. My idea clearly didn't work but Peter's did. I couldn't believe Peter nailed the cover for my book at his first attempt. We did pause to think how the cover might work for subsequent books, because I knew I was going to write a series. The initial Dying to Draw design has worked equally well for Dying to Write and Dying to Speak. All three covers work really well on Amazon, Goodreads and on my author website where they have to work at quite a small size. The typography is very strong. The illustrations are striking and for a cosy crime book, you've got that sense of something being not quite as cosy as the image might suggest. Next, we worked on the inside page formatting and that's where Caroline came in. Again, the process was very straightforward, and as I went along and had various queries, I realised just how much knowledge Peter and Caroline have of publishing. I can honestly say that if it wasn't for Peter and Caroline and the service they offer as Bespoke Author, I wouldn't be here as a self-published author of three books. I'd still be trying to work out how to do it. So I'm very grateful to them both, not only for their service, but for being really good people to work with.

I used BespokeAuthor to self-publish my first novel. For the book cover, Peter came up with the basic design and was patient and professional with all my quibbles.
